Opposition alliance to prepare Türkiye for its 2nd Century: CHP leader

The opposition alliance will prepare Türkiye for its second century when it comes to power in the next elections that will take place in June 2023, as the country will mark its centennial, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said.

Heavy rains hit western Türkiye, disrupt daily life in Istanbul

Some districts of the metropolitan city of Istanbul have been lashed by heavy rains battering western provinces of Türkiye, with Istanbul's Esenyurt district bearing the brunt.

Following the torrential rain warnings issued for 11 provinces, including Istanbul, the expected rain hit the metropolitan city on Aug. 25.

Rain batters country, pounds Istanbul hardest

Torrential rains have lashed several parts of Türkiye, with the metropolitan city of Istanbul bearing the brunt the most as its world-famous Grand Bazaar has filled with flood water.

Following the torrential rain warnings issued for 17 provinces, including Istanbul, the expected rain hit the metropolitan city on Aug. 15.

CHP not to retreat in face of any oppression, violence: Kılıçdaroğlu

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu vowed to win the next elections and pledged to strengthen the separation of state powers.

Elaborating on the court files against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Kılıçdaroğlu said the government is at unease because the mayor is hard working.

According to opinion polls, Imamoglu would beat Erdogan, whose popularity has suffered as a result of a series of political and international crises, and mostly due to the grave economic crisis.

He is cautious about his own prospects. "The opposition parties will work very selectively to decide the best presidential candidate," Imamoglu said.
