Millions of people early Feb. 6 partook in "silent marches," traversing through desolate streets across 11 southern provinces to commemorate the 53,537 lives on the first anniversary of the twin earthquakes.

Participants observed a moment of silence at 4:17 a.m., the haunting moment when the first tremor of 7.7 magnitude struck the cities while millions were asleep.

İmamoğlu embarks on reelection campaign for Istanbul

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has kicked off his reelection campaign for the upcoming local elections slated for March 31.

AKP to unveil initial slate of candidates for local polls Sunday

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is set to unveil its first batch of candidates for the upcoming local elections on Jan. 7, spokesperson Ömer Çelik has revealed.

The remaining candidates will be officially announced on Jan. 15, along with the election manifesto, Çelik told a group of journalists at the party headquarters in the capital Ankara late on Jan. 3.
