Monica Belluci to be in Istanbul for Callas play

Renowned Italian actress and beauty icon Monica Bellucci will portray the iconic Greek soprano Maria Callas in Istanbul on Dec. 14.

The legendary actress will be in the Turkish metropolis to perform a monologue based on unpublished letters of the great soprano entitled "Maria Callas: Letters and Memories."

The performance will take place at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage.

Turks mark World Animal Day

Turkish people have marked World Animal Day with a string of events and messages to celebrate humanity's coexistence with animals, while non-governmental organizations have called on officials to increase their efforts for animal protection.

Exhibition showcases Istanbul’s heritage along with contemporary artworks

A new joint exhibition by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts Publishing, titled "This Place," has opened at Yapıkredi Arts and Culture Center.

Speaking at the opening during the press conference, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, said the exhibition stands as a reminder of Istanbul's valuable assets such as environment and cultural heritage.

Menderes commemorated on 60th anniversary of execution

Adnan Menderes, Turkey's first democratically elected prime minister, is being commemorated 60 years after his execution following a coup in 1960, an event marking a dark era in Turkish history.

An official ceremony was held in Istanbul on Sept. 17 for Adnan Menderes and two ministers of the time, Hasan Polatkan and Fatin Rüştü Zorlu, who were executed on Sept. 16 and 17, 1961.

Istanbul named among world’s best cities in 2021

A U.K.-based culture magazine has picked the world's best 37 cities, ranking Turkey's largest metropolis Istanbul in the list.

Out of the 37 ranked cities chosen by the Time Out magazine, San Francisco made it to the top of the list and was followed by Amsterdam and Manchester, while Istanbul was listed 36th.

Copenhagen, New York and Montreal were also at the top of the list.
