Novartis investigation dogged by disputes

A year since a prosecutors' investigation into an alleged bribery scandal involving the Swiss drugs manufacturer Novartis was sent to Parliament, the probe is at a crucial juncture, with judicial officials expected to bring charges against Greek politicians in due course even though evidence of illicit payments has yet to be produced. 

Former general secretary for public revenues will not face trial

The former general secretary for public revenues, Katerina Savvaidou, will not face trial on charges of attempted breach of trust, according to a ruling by the council of appeals court judges made public Thursday.

In April a prosecutor had asked for Savvaidou to be tried for breach of trust, a charge aggravated by the provisions of laws against the embezzlement of state funding.

Eleni Touloupaki appointed new corruption prosecutor

The Supreme Court's judicial council on Monday appointed appeals court prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki as the country's top corruption prosecutor, replacing Eleni Raikou who resigned last month, citing threats and pressure.

Touloupaki has played an active role in the work carried out by Greece's financial prosecutors into people suspected of high-level tax evasion and money laundering.
