Croatia Still Confining Disabled in Institutions, Activists Say

Several disabled people's and human rights organisations, Inclusion Europe, the European Network on Independent Living, the Centre for Peace Studies Croatia, Human Rights House Zagreb, and Human Rights Watch, on Wednesday said in a letter to Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic that Croatia should stop confining children and adults in institutions.

Macedonia Police Slammed for Abusing Refugees

In a report released on Monday, Human Rights Watch accused the Macedonian police of beating and insulting refugees and migrants from countries like Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia.

"It's plain to see that Macedonia has a problem with police violence against asylum seekers and migrants," said Emina Cerimovic of Human Rights Watch.

BELGRADE -- The police in Serbia "mistreat and insult migrants and asylum seekers," Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said.

They were also denied protection and thrown out of the country, the NGO added and urged authorities in Belgrade to "conduct an investigation and brings those responsible to justice."
