Title hopeful Başakşehir suffers shock in 4-0 defeat against Kasımpaşaspor

Başakşehir suffered an unexpected 4-0 loss against Kasımpaşaspor on Feb. 12, making it miss its chance to climb back to the top of the Spor Toto Super League standings and failing to capitalize on its closest rival's loss.

Beşiktaş, which suffered a 2-1 shock defeat at Karabükspor's field on Feb. 10, remained atop the standings, two points ahead of Başakşehir.

Beşiktaş chairman apologizes for wrongdoings in derby of brawls

Beşiktaş chairman Firket Orman has "apologized for any wrongdoings" committed by his club during the Feb. 5 Ziraat Turkey Cup game against Fenerbahçe, which was marked by brawls and on-pitch violence. 

"I apologize to everyone for our wrongdoings in the derby," Orman said on Feb. 7 at a ceremony marking a new jersey deal with Vodafone.

A well-motivated Turkish Spor Toto Super League leader Beşiktaş will take on archrival Fenerbahçe on Feb. 5 in a Ziraat Turkey Cup last 16 stage "do or die" game. 

Beşiktaş, which climbed to the top of the standings on matchday 18, put five goals past a strong Konyaspor on Jan. 30 to maintain a two-point cushion over Medipol Başakşehir.

Spor Toto Super League leader Medipol Başakşehir refused to allow Beşiktaş to overtake it atop the table in an exciting draw between the top flight's last two unbeaten teams during a Nov. 26 match at Beşiktaş's Vodafone Arena.

"We are sad that we missed out on the win but happy to keep the lead," said visiting Başakşehir coach Abdullah Avcı after the game.
