Syphilis and gonorrhea on the increase
Cases of syphilis increased by over 113 percent and of gonorrhea by over 120 percent between 2020 and 2022, data from the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) has shown.
In 2022, there were 862 syphilis diagnoses compared with 404 in 2020. Gonorrhea diagnoses went up from 164 to 362 in the same period.

Deaths from flu, covid rose to 48 last week
Deaths from flu and covid rose to 48 last week, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported on Thursday, with an average age of 85.
Of the deceased, 40 were infected with Covid-19, while eight were infected with flu.

Covid deaths ease as prevalence rises
Covid-related deaths dropped slightly to 15 in the period from July 17 to 23 from 16 the week before that, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) confirmed in its weekly bulletin on Thursday.
The number of patients who had to be intubated, seven, marked a 75% rise compared to the four-week average before it.

Sixth child this year dies from Streptococcus A
The sixth death of a child due to the streptococcus A (Strep A) infection has been recorded in Greece since the beginning of 2023, according to the National Public Health Organization (EODY) on Monday.
The 7-year-old child died in a hospital in Thessaloniki.

Covid deaths ease, but ICU patients up from last week
Covid-19 deaths eased to 65 in the period from March 20 to 26 from 75 the week before, according to the weekly bulletin published on Thursday by the National Public Health Organization (EODY).
However, though new intubations eased, the number of Covid patients on a ventilator in intensive care rose to 75 from 71 on a weekly basis.

Greek Covid advisory issued for travelers coming from China
Greece's National Organization for Public Health (EODY) issued on Saturday a new advisory requiring travelers on direct flights from China to present negative Covid test carried out 48 hours from departure.
Another 1,410 new Covid-19 cases reported on Friday
The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) reported 1,410 new infections on Friday, which drove the total number to 170,244.
None of them were reported at the country's entry points.
At the same time, 21 patients died from Covid-19, raising the total number of fatalities to 6,077. The median age of those who died was 80 years.
Authorities report 1,496 new virus infections
The number of new infections remained high for a second day on Wednesday, with Greek health authorities announcing 1,496 new cases from 1,526 on Tuesday, which brought the total number to 167,549.
