Turkey’s justice minister backs inclusive constitution

Turkey's justice minister said on Feb. 12 that he wants to create an inclusive Constitution as the country begins debates on a new set of laws. 

"Our first duty is to make a Constitution that every part of [society] would say 'this is my Constitution,'" said Abdulhamit Gül during an interview with TRT Haber, Turkey's state-run news channel.

Gov’t plans to discuss changes in electoral law with parties, says minister

The Turkish government is planning to discuss some "essential changes" in the country's electoral law with all political parties, Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül said on June 15.

Speaking in an interview with state-run Anadolu Agency, Gül said that the government is approaching all issues by thinking how the matter will affect democracy, the rule of law and the nation's common will.

Considering and preparing a new election law is useful and necessary, Turkey's justice minister said on June 8. 

Abdulhamit Gül evaluated the agenda in an appearance on journalist Cüneyt Özdemir's YouTube channel.

Three former opposition party lawmakers were sent to prison last Friday, a day after parliament revoked their seats.

Prison staff to be isolated after shifts

Employees in Turkey's prisons will go into isolation for a "determined time span" and will not immediately go to their homes after their shifts, the justice minister has said.

"As of [March 30], prison staff will not be sent to their homes for a determined timespan and will stay at isolated locations," Abdulhamit Gül said on March 30.

Man kills at least four, including wife, in latest case of domestic violence

A man has disappeared into thin air after killing four people, including his wife, and wounding two others in southeastern Gaziantep province, while reports indicated he might also be responsible for the death of five other relatives who were found dead later on Feb. 5.
