US envoy: Islands are entitled to EEZ, continental shelf

Commenting on the contentious agreement on maritime boundaries signed between Turkey and Libya's internationally-recognized government, US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt said, in an interview published on Saturday, that Greek islands are on the same footing as the mainland when it comes to continental shelf and an exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Pyatt reiterates US support for EastMed project

US Ambassador to Athens Geoffrey Pyatt has reiterated Washington's support for the deepening cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Israel in the energy sector.
In early January, the three countries signed a deal to build a 1,900 km (1,180 mile) subsea pipeline to carry natural gas from the eastern Mediterranean's rapidly developing gas fields to Europe.

Pyatt briefs SYRIZA cadres on outcome of Mitsotakis visit to US

In a note on Twitter on Tuesday, US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt stressed the importance of boosting Greek-US ties and "continuing to build on our strong bilateral relationship, including on defense, security, energy and investment" following talks with prominent SYRIZA cadres Nikos Pappas and Giorgos Katrougalos.

Islands on same footing as mainland, US envoy says

Inhabited islands, such as Crete, are on the same footing as mainland coastline in the delineation of marine zones, US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt said Monday in response to questions from reporters about the recent maritime border agreement between Libya and Turkey that ignores the presense of the Greek island.

ENR welcomes EastMed pipeline deal

The US Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) has welcomed the EastMed gas pipeline deal signed on Thursday between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
"ENR applauds the continued cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel in the development of energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean," the agency said in a message on its Twitter account.

Greece’s upgrade of F-16 fighter jets to bolster deterrent force

Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos has announced that an upgrade a large number of Greece's F-16 fighter jet fleet will begin immediately.

The first original jet has arrived at the facilities of the Hellenic Aerospace Industry.

Specifically, the F-16 BLK 52+/ADV will be upgraded with the viper configuration.
