George Island

A group of Turkish scientists has embarked on the eighth Antarctic expedition from Istanbul.

The team, consisting of a 20-member scientific delegation and three high school students, will first set off for Sao Paulo, Brazil, and reach Antarctica's King George Island after a long journey.

During the 32nd Bulgarian expedition to Antarctica, participants Doychin Boyanov, Kalin Naydenov, Kiril Doskov, and Marcho Paunov aboard the research vessel St. St. Cyril and Methodius (RSV 421) have made an unexpected discovery. While collecting geological samples in False Bay and Barnard Point, the team found aircraft parts on Livingstone Island.

Students who came first with their "bioplastics from acorns" project in The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Türkiye's (TÜBİTAK) High School Students Polar Research Projects Competition had the opportunity to test their project in Antarctica.

Six Bulgarian Antarctic researchers were collected by the ship "Lautaro" from the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island in the South Shetlands, the leader of the expedition, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, reported on Thursday, quoted by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in a press release.

Professor Hristo Pimpirev and ten other polar researchers will join the Bulgarian expedition team at the Bulgarian St. Kliment Ohridski base in Antarctica, reports BNT

The second group of the 27th National Antarctic Expedition is leaving tonight the country, reported the Bulgarian National Television.

The group will be led by  Hristo Pimpirev and will travel from Sofia via Santiago de Chile to Punta Arenas.
