Retail stores will be able to have special offers on merchandise on any day of the year, even throughout the year and on the day before the start of sales seasons, without having to announce them to the Development Ministry and the local tradesmens association, according to a ministerial decision that comes into effect on Wednesday.

Non-performing loans decision in late October, says deputy minister
Deputy Development Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos told Parliament on Thursday that decisions regarding non-performing loans would be announced by the end of October, as opposed to September, as initially expected.
Minister mulls fixing food and drink prices at non-private beaches
The government is planning to fix the prices of food and drinks sold at state-owned and municipal beaches, Deputy Development Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos said on Monday.
Speaking to Ant-1 TV, Giakoumatos said he was concerned about the cost families faced when they visit the beach.
Minister warns bakers not weighing fresh bread will be fined
Deputy Development Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos warned on Monday that bakers not abiding by a new law requiring them to weigh fresh bread before they sell it would face fines.
Giakoumatis said that authorities would be checking if bakeries are weighing their bread after the law came into force on Monday.
Deputy minister targets greedy Athens kiosk owner
Deputy Development Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos (photo) on Tuesday asked the ministrys competition commission to take out an injunction against a kiosk close to the Acropolis which is alleged to have been profiteering by selling 1-liter bottles of water for 3 euros.

Sunday opening pilot scheme extended to Myconos, Santorini

The government has decided to extend the pilot scheme concerning year-round Sunday opening for retail stores to 10 areas around the country, prompting the resignation of the head of the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE), Vassilis Korkidis, from the commerce department of the larger of the two coalition parties, New Democracy on Monday.
