Christos Stylianides appointed global champion of education by ECW
Former European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, was appointed global champion for education in emergencies by Education Cannot Wait (ECW), a global fund supporting education in emergencies and protracted crises.
The appointment is shared with former UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.
UN gets $250 million to educate Syrian children, needs more
Donors have pledged $250 million to educate over one million Syrian children this year but an additional $500 million is urgently needed to fund the program in Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, the U.N. envoy for global education said on Jan. 12.
