Turkey expects a tough match against Italy in Friday's UEFA EURO 2020 opener in Rome, the Turkish national football team manager said on June 10.
"I expect tomorrow's match will be in a high level technically, tactically and physically," Şenol Güneş said in a pre-match press conference, referring to both teams' high concentration and challenging playing style on the pitch.
Veteran striker Burak Yılmaz scored a hat trick as Turkey stunned the Netherlands 4-2 on March 24 in the opening game of European World Cup qualifying.
Yılmaz, the 35-year-old Lille forward, struck twice before the break and again late in the second half to secure the win in the Group G opener just as the Netherlands was threatening a comeback.
Olympiakos surrendered its early lead as it crumbled at Milan to concede three goals in 10 minutes, but PAOK built on its own early lead to defeat host BATE Borisov in Thursday's group games for the Europa League.
AC Milan beat Olympiakos 3-1 at the San Siro despite the Greeks' lead up to the 70th minute through a Miguel Angel Guerrero strike on the 14th minute.
A last-gasp header from Mehmet Topal gave Turkey a 1-0 victory over Montenegro on May 29, as well as a boost to the team's morale ahead of Euro 2016.
Midfielder Arda Turan, likely to be key to Turkey's prospects in France, set up the goal with a cross in the fourth minute of stoppage time and Topal charged into the area to head it past the diving Montenegro keeper.
