STM signs deal to build ships for Portuguese Navy

Turkish naval defense company STM Savunma Teknolojileri will build logistics support vessels for the Portuguese Navy.

Two auxiliary oiler replenisher and logistics ships will be designed and built in Türkiye, with STM as the main contractor, the company said in a statement.

This marks the first export of military ships by Türkiye to a European Union and NATO member state.

Defense exports already hit a record $5.8 billion this year

The Turkish defense and aviation industry's export revenue already hit an all-time high of $5.76 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, marking a 19 percent increase from the same period of 2023.

The 12-month trailing exports of Turkish defense companies surged 18.4 percent to $6.5 billion as of November.

Türkiye unveils first domestic quantum computer

Türkiye has introduced its first domestically developed quantum computer, the result of 14 years of research by TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara.

The computer was unveiled during a ceremony in the capital on Nov. 21, attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Defense Industry Agency head Haluk Görgün and several sector representatives.

Türkiye, Malaysia discuss defense cooperation

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hosted Haluk Görgün, head of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency, on Friday to explore ways to enhance defense cooperation between Malaysia and Türkiye.

Görgün and Ibrahim engaged in an "in-depth discussion" focused on strengthening their defense ties, as shared by Malaysian Prime Minister in a statement on X.

The Turkish defense and aviation industry's exports surge 8.6 percent in the January-May period from a year ago to reach $2.21 billion.

The industry's share in the country's overall export revenues was 2.1 percent.
