US President Biden receives Turkey's ambassador

President Joe Biden received Turkey's U.S. envoy, Hasan Murat Mercan, at the White House this week, the embassy announced on April 8. 

Mercan was received by the U.S. president on April 4. A photo of Mercan in the Oval Office was posted on his personal Twitter account, and on the account of the Turkish embassy in Washington.

Mercan took office on March 15, 2021.

Turkey's new envoy aims to advance relations with US

Turkey's new U.S. ambassador said on March 16 that he aims to advance relations with the U.S., a day after taking office in Washington, DC. 

In a video message addressed to the Turkish American community, Hasan Murat Mercan said transatlantic relations have been important for Turkey and will continue to be of importance.  

Turkey appoints new ambassadors

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has begun appointing new envoys to missions abroad, with the ministry's spokesperson, Hami Aksoy, being be assigned as Ankara's ambassador to Belgrade.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a phone conversation with some ambassadors to notify them on their new positions and extended his best wishes, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Dec. 8.
