The Turkish Air Force has changed the name of the Akıncı Air Base in Ankara, which was used as the headquarters of the July 15 failed coup attempt, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The Turkish Parliament will discuss over a number of new measures to prevent future attempts to stage a military coup in Turkey, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said, as legal procedures have already been launched to heavily punish plotters. Yıldırım said July 15 will be marked as the democracy fest for Turkey as the coup attempt was foiled thanks to the prudence of the Turkish people. 

A bloody coup attempt by a large number of soldiers, including high-ranking generals was quashed by the security forces on July 16 as hundreds of thousands of civilians hit the streets across the country against the rebel soldiers in a night that put a black mark on Turkish democracy.

Turkish Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar, accompanied by commanders-in-chief and the commander of the gendarmerie forces, have visited the southeastern provinces of Şırnak and Mardin in order to inspect ongoing security operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
