Romanian presidential adviser to visit Moldova amidst tense political developments there

Bogdan Aurescu, adviser on foreign affairs to Romania's President Klaus Iohannis, will pay a working visit to Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, on Friday, amidst the recent political developments in Moldova, the Presidential Administration informs in a statement.

As two governments claim to be running Moldova, the one headed by the former ruling Democratic Party on Tuesday declared it would transfer the embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Moldova Faces Turmoil as Court Outlaws New Govt

Moldova faces a fresh political crisis after the Constitutional Court declared the new government, led by the pro-European leader Maia Sandu and sworn in on Saturday, illegal.

The Court, which is widely seen as heavily influenced by the Democratic Party, also ordered the dissolution of parliament, which means new legislative elections must be held.

Diplomatic Intervention Breaks Moldova’s Political Deadlock

The pro-European political bloc ACUM and the pro-Russian Socialist Party, PSRM, held talks on Tuesday about the possibility of establishing a new parliamentary majority in Moldova after almost three months of political deadlock.

The negotiations started after US, EU and Russian officials visited Moldova on Monday.

Moldovan President Threatens to Dissolve Deadlocked Parliament

President Igor Dodon said on Wednesday that MPs have two weeks to establish a governing majority and get parliament functioning again or he will call for early elections.

"If during this period [of two weeks], deputies do not find a consensus and create a parliamentary majority, then the president of Moldova will have to dissolve parliament," Dodon said.

President Leads Victory Day March in Moldova

The pro-Russian President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, and supporters of the Socialist Party on Thursday led a march to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Red Army victory over Nazi Germany and the end of World War II.

"It must be an equal celebration for everybody. Victory Day is a celebration of all citizens in Moldova," Dodon said.
