The Diaspora International Short Film Festival ended on Aug. 29 with an award ceremony held at the Istanbul Cinema Museum.

The festival, an initiative of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), was supported by the Culture and Tourism Ministry in cooperation with Turkish public broadcaster TRT and the Bosphorus Culture and Art Foundation.

With October 1 approaching as the deadline for film institutions in countries around the world to submit their entries for 92th Academy Awards, five Balkan states have already decided on the movies they hope will reap success at next year's Oscars in Hollywood.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: 'The Son'

Bosnia's capital will become a "city that does not sleep" for eight days in the second half of this month, as it celebrates the silver jubilee of the much-loved Sarajevo Film Festival.

The fun starts with a street parade on August 16, marking the opening of the festival, after which 270 films from 56 countries will be shown over the following eight days.

The 21st Festival on Wheels starts its journey on Nov. 26 in the Turkish capital Ankara. The event will also visit Bursa between Dec 4 and 7 and and Kastamonu on Dec 9 and 10 with the theme 'Precarious Lives'The Festival on Wheels is preparing to hit the road for the 21st time on Nov. 26 in Ankara before setting forth to the west and north.
