Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej has said that he "has nothing against" the visit of the Roman Catholic pope to Serbia.

However, Irinej added that perhaps the conditions for that have not been met yet.

Patriarch Irinej's statement, saying Serbs should use force if Kosovo becomes a member of UNESCO and all peaceful attempts to stop it gaining control over Serbian religious monuments fail, was condemned on Wednesday by experts who warned that it could provoke instability.

Patriarch Irinej: We must not sacrifice KiM for Europe

The Serbian Orthodox Church supports Serbia's EU pathway, but we must not and cannot sacrifice Kosovo, Serbian Patriarch Irinej said after a meeting with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday.

The annual Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Wednesday said it was relieving from duty its Canadian Bishop, Georgije Djokic, following complaints of misconduct and corruption.

Serbia's daily Blic newspaper reported that the Bishop has denied the charges, claiming that he turned round one of the Church's most neglected dioceses.

BELGRADE - An exhibition entitled Military Priests in Serbian Liberation Wars was opened at Dom Vojske Srbije in Belgrade, focusing on the mission of the Church and its priests in times of war.

Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej opened the exhibition on Thursday, and President Tomislav Nikolic atteneded the opening.

Vucic and SPC patriarch meet, discuss Kosovo

During the meeting the prime minister informed the head of the Serbian Church about his recent visit to Kosovo and Metohija.

BELGRADE -- Serbian Orthodox Christians are on January 7 celebrating Christmas, one of Christianity's most important holidays that marks the birth of Jesus Christs.

BELGRADE - An exhibition containing the legacy of former Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Pavle was opened at the Museum of the SPC to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth and the 5th anniversary of his death.

The exhibition was opened by Patriarch Irinej, who said that the event and the items on display would show that Pavle had lived modestly, as a normal person.

Monument to last Russian tsar consecrated

BELGRADE -- A monument to Russian Emperor Nicholas II was unveiled and consecrated in Belgrade on Sunday.

Patriarch Kirill praised ties between Orthodox Russia and Serbia at the start of a three-day visit to Belgrade, during which he will bless a statue of Russia's last Tsar.

"Our churches are bound together to preserve the trust between peoples, which is of a great importance," Kirill said at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla airport.
