Move to Axe Bishops Splits Serbian Church

The annual Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Wednesday said it was relieving from duty its Canadian Bishop, Georgije Djokic, following complaints of misconduct and corruption.

Serbia's daily Blic newspaper reported that the Bishop has denied the charges, claiming that he turned round one of the Church's most neglected dioceses.

Exhibition about military priests in Serbian liberation wars

BELGRADE - An exhibition entitled Military Priests in Serbian Liberation Wars was opened at Dom Vojske Srbije in Belgrade, focusing on the mission of the Church and its priests in times of war.

Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej opened the exhibition on Thursday, and President Tomislav Nikolic atteneded the opening.

Exhibition dedicated to Patriarch Pavle opens

BELGRADE - An exhibition containing the legacy of former Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Pavle was opened at the Museum of the SPC to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth and the 5th anniversary of his death.

The exhibition was opened by Patriarch Irinej, who said that the event and the items on display would show that Pavle had lived modestly, as a normal person.

Serbian Church Plays Host to Russian Patriarch

Patriarch Kirill praised ties between Orthodox Russia and Serbia at the start of a three-day visit to Belgrade, during which he will bless a statue of Russia's last Tsar.

"Our churches are bound together to preserve the trust between peoples, which is of a great importance," Kirill said at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla airport.
