Bulgaria Regulator Proposes Power Price Cut for Industrial Consumers

Bulgaria's energy regulator has proposed to cut the 'duty to society' fee levied on power prices for industrial consumers which was increased in August.

The Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, or KEVR, is proposing to cut the fee by BGN 1.07 to BGN 36.83 per megawatthour, VAT excluded, as of November 1, the head of the regulator Ivan Ivanov told reporters on Thursday.

No Price Caps Discussed for Power from AES, ContourGlobal Plants in Bulgaria, Regulator Says

Bulgaria's energy regulator KEVR said on Wednesday that it hasn't discussed capping prices of electricity purchased by state-owned National Electricity Company NEK from two local thermal power plants owned by U.S. investors.

"We fully comply with the provisions laid down in the Energy Act," KEVR Chairman Ivan Ivanov told reporters, according to investor.bg.

Price of Natural Gas in Bulgaria May Drop by over 13.6% as of October

The price of natural gas may drop by more than 13.6% as of October, according to Ivan Ivanov, Chair of the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR).

Ivanov declared Thursday that a price drop exceeding the preliminary estimate of state-owned gas company Bulgariaz of 13.6% would mean that gas rates would have dropped by over 30% in a year.

Ivan Ivanov, Chair of Bulgaria's Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR), has attributed calls for his resignation by employers' associations to attempts to protect corporate interests.

Employers' associations demanded the resignation of Ivanov after he announced KEVR's decision to introduce a significant power price hike for industrial consumers as of August 1.
