Turkish defense minister meets US envoy for talks on Idlib

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has met United States State Department's Special Envoy James Jeffrey and U.S. Ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield in the Turkish capital to discuss the ongoing conflict in Idlib where the Turkish army launched an offensive against the Syrian regime forces.

US, Russia compete for approval on Twitter amid Idlib crisis

As tensions continue to rise in the last Syrian rebel bastion of Idlib, Russia and the United States are now battling, in Turkish, on an unprecedented turf: Twitter.

The U.S. Embassy in Ankara posted a video on its Twitter account with the caption "Eyes on Idlib."

The video's message voiced solidarity with Turkey and said the U.S. will "use its power for peace in Syria."

US says it supports Turkey’s ‘legitimate interests’ in Idlib

The United States supports Turkey's "legitimate interests" in Syria's last rebel bastion of Idlib, and its presence in the province, James Jeffrey, the U.S. special envoy for Syria engagement and fight against ISIL, has said.

In an interview with private broadcaster NTV, Jeffrey said that the U.S. supports Turkey's interests in Idlib.

"We support Turkey's presence," he added.

Turkish, US officials discuss developments in Syria

Turkish and U.S. officials met on Feb. 12 in the capital Ankara to discuss the latest developments in northwestern Syria.

Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Emre Karaosmanoğlu, U.S. special envoy for Syria James Jeffrey and U.S. ambassador to Turkey Michael Satterfield exchanged views on regional security issues, especially the situation in Idlib province.
