BELGRADE - Donald Trump, US President-elect, has chosen the retired Marine General James Mattis, an outspoken critic of the Iran nuclear agreement, to serve as his secretary of defense.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said Dec. 1 that he has picked the tough-talking retired general James Mattis to be his defense secretary as he kicked off his post-election "thank you tour" by railing against globalization, promising the return of manufacturing jobs to American workers, and vowing to shut U.S. borders to some Middle East migrants.

Donald Trump began to broaden the base of his future cabinet on Nov. 23, nominating two conservative women including a critic, after his earlier picks rewarded campaign loyalists.
