Ljubljana – The council of the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) voted in favour of a proposal by the party’s executive committee that DeSUS leave the current coalition and back party leader Karl Erjavec as a candidate for prime minister-designate.

The decision on the fate of the government ministers who are members of DeSUS is on Prime Minister Janez Janša, Erjavec said.

Ljubljana – The Pensioners’ Party’s (DeSUS) decision to leave the government was welcomed by the four centre-left parties from the informal Constitutional Arch Coalition (KUL). The Modern Centre Party (SMC), which KUL would also like to leave the government, and the coalition New Slovenia (NSi) said the health crisis is no time to topple the government.

Luxembourg – The European Court of Justice has ruled that Slovenia breached the inviolability of ECB archives in a 2016 police search of archives at the country’s central bank that was part of an investigation into the 2013 bank bailout.

Brdo pri Kranju – Prime Minister Janez Janša met ambassadors of EU member states to Slovenia on Tuesday, an event organised by the German EU presidency. The PM answered questions from ambassadors concerning the most recent EU summit, the main challenges for next year and Slovenia’s preparations for its EU presidency in the second half of 2021.

Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša said during questions time in parliament on Monday that it had been Italy and Croatia’s “good will” to invite Slovenia for talks on their plans to declare their exclusive economic zones in the Adriatic Sea. This invitation came “precisely because of our reputation”, the prime minister told the MPs.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly is meeting for a four-day session on Monday with one of the items on the agenda the controversial bill on the demographic fund.

The session, held in a hybrid form to allow deputies wishing so to participate remotely, will open with the customary questions time featuring PM Janez Janša and members of his government.

Ljubljana – The government has decided to temporarily ease some restrictions starting on Tuesday. Some services will resume nationwide, some will be limited to four regions with the best epidemiological situation, Prime Minister Janez Janša announced on Twitter on Sunday. The new measures will apply until 23 December.

Ljubljana – A deputy of the coalition Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) has said four of the five DeSUS MPs were willing to quit the deputy group and become independent “if things do not calm down”. They plan to support the current government until the end of its term.

Ljubljana – The Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) remains in the government coalition but will examine the possibility of closer cooperation with the coalition Modern Centre Party’s (SMC) deputy group, DeSUS deputy group leader Franc Jurša said after Thursday’s meeting between MPs and new party leader Karl Erjavec.

Strasbourg – Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović wrote a letter to Prime Minister Janez Janša on Monday, urging him to immediately reintroduce funding to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA). She expressed concern that the suspension of public funding could jeopardise the agency’s future.
