Members of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus sent a letter to US President John Biden on Thursday, urging him to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Turkey's invasion and ongoing occupation of Cyprus by inviting Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis to the White House.

"The United States and its allies will respond unitedly and decisively to this unprovoked and unjustified attack by the Russian armed forces on Ukraine," US President John Biden said after explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Reuters reported.

Two U.S. warships will sail in the Black Sea, a Turkish Foreign Ministry official said on April 9, stressing that Washington notified Ankara 15 days ago through diplomatic channels in line with the Montreux Convention.

The warships will cross to the Black Sea separately on April 14-15 and then leave the sea on May 4-5, said the official on condition of anonymity.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pledged to continue talks with Moscow for the procurement of the second batch of the Russian-made S-400 air defense systems and said they would discuss details at the end of the month.

He stressed that Turkey is determined to proceed with the S-400 deal despite U.S. opposition.
