Kerry says US help will only work if Iraqi leaders unite

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said U.S. assistance to Iraq, which is seeking to repel a stunning militant advance, would only work if Iraqi leaders overcame deep divisions, the State Department said on June 14

Kerry spoke with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in a call on Saturday, the State Department said in a statement.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Re-elected

Bashar al-Assad has won Syria's presidential election by a landslide, according to officials.

Assad has gained 88.7% of support in the first vote with multiple candidates held in the country for decades.

Hassan al-Nouri and Maher Hajjar, the other two candidates that stood for election, won 4.3 and 3.2 percent respectively, according to Al Jazeera English.

Top US diplomat’s special assistant to take Turkey post

The Obama administration has nominated John Bass, the former ambassador to Georgia and a special assistant to Secretary of State John Kerry, to replace the outgoing envoy Francis Ricciardone as the United States’ envoy to Ankara.

Bass needs the Senate’s approval to be appointed to the Turkey post. Ricciardone’s tenure will end in July.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin "is creating his own reality, and his sort of world", the US State Secretary John Kerry said late on Monday.

His words, which he addressed in an interview for the Wall Street Journal, come in the midst of rhetoric reinforcement from both the West and Russia over the Ukrainian crisis.
