Croatian President Says 'Wrong Refugees' Arrived from Syria

Grabar Kitarovic said in an interview with Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung on Monday that Europe had received the "wrong refugees" from Syria - able-bodied men rather than vulnerable women and children.

She said that the majority of those who had made their way to Europe from the Middle East were "men able to fight" in the wars there.

Over 1,300 people have signed a not-quite-serious online petition to re-open the infamous Yugoslav Communist-era prison camp on Goli Otok [Bare Island] - but not to punish political dissidents.

They say the camp inmates should be criminals of a different type - people who have robbed the country of its wealth and impoverished society.

Serbian Town Pays Tribute to Putin in Wax

A wax effigy of Vladimir Putin will go on show in the Wax Museum in Jagodina in early March, standing next to sports star Novak Djokovic, the scientist Nikola Tesla and late Yugoslav strongman, Josip Broz Tito.

Dragan Markovic, president of the local assembly of Jagodina, told BIRN that Putin's wax figure was ready and he hoped Russian diplomats would come and see it unveiled.

EU Visa Decision 'Insults Kosovo', Thaci Says

Kosovo Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci voiced bitter disappointment on Kosovo being left out of the EU's free-travel regime at Thursday's government meeting.

The EU's refusal to include Kosovo in its visa liberalisation scheme formed part of the day's agenda.

Thaci stressed strong language in his address, calling the decision incompetent and provocative.
