A phony social media account spread fake news on Wednesday that famous Greek singer Nana Mouskouri has passed away.

The gruesome news was announced in a fake Twitter account which carried the name and photo of the acting Minister of Culture and Sports Giorgos Koumendakis, who later posted that the fake account was created by Italian writer Tommaso Debenedetti.

Over thirty years ago the foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey, Karolos Papoulias and Mesut Yilamz signed an agreement in Vouliagment which set a number of rules concerning the relations between the two countries.

The agreement included a provision that both sides would refrain from military activity over the Aegean on each other's holy days.

Italian prankster Tommaso De Benedetti struck again on Wednesday, falsely announcing the death of former Greek president Karolos Papoulias on Twitter using a fake account he created under the name of Deputy Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos.
"Karolos Papoulias, the former President of Greece, has died few minutes ago at 90," the tweet read.

The defense ministers of Greece and Turkey, Evangelos Apostolakis and Hulusi Akar, said on Wednesday after talks in Brussels that technical teams from both countries will be tasked with drafting a framework of confidence-building measures in a bid to reduce tensions in the Aegean.

Former president Karolos Papoulias has been admitted to hospital for a routine checkup, his office announced on Monday.

"There is no cause for concern in regard to his health," the announcement said, responding to reports earlier in the day that the 88-year-old was suffering from a respiratory infection.

VIENNA - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will attend in Salzburg on Saturday a meeting of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), where he will be inaugurated as EASA protector on behalf of Serbia.

BELGRADE -- Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will on Saturday attend a meeting of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) in Salzburg, Austria.

Nikolic will be inaugurated as "EASA protector," his press service announced.

PASOK chief Evangelos Venizelos on Tuesday accused the SYRIZA-led government of taking "steps back" in its reform proposal to international creditors, saying that "the Greek government is being forced to write the memorandum in its own hand."

Outgoing President Karolos Papoulias met with Chinese representatives, including Chinese Navy Adm. Zhang Chuanshu and crew members of the Changbaishan warship, whom he received at the presidential mansion on Thursday.

The Chinese navy delegation was accompanied by the Chinese ambassador in Greece, Xiaoli Zou.
