The removal of a statue of a senior member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workersâ Party (PKK) has triggered clashes in southeastern Turkey, with protesters targeting busts of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.

A Diyarbakır court has ruled for the demolition of a statue of Mahsum Korkmaz, one of the founders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workersâ Party (PKK), which was erected in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Aug. 16.
Fire breaks out at Atatürk Forest Farm
A fire broke out at the Atatürk Forest Farm in Ankara on Aug. 17, destroying a large number of trees. The cause of the blaze has yet to be found.
Firefighting teams brought the fire under control around one hour after it erupted in a forested area near to where a huge new Prime Ministry complex is being built.
