Erdoğan will run for president for second time, not third: Parliament speaker

Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop has dismissed claims that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan cannot run in the next presidential elections, recalling that he was given the right to serve as president for two terms in a constitutional amendment in 2017.

Debate on ‘candidacy’ only benefits Erdoğan: CHP leader

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said a recent debate on the candidacy of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan aimed at "creating victimization."

"This discussion can be held at the legal level, but these discussions only benefit Erdoğan on the political ground of Turkey today," he told broadcaster TV5 on Feb. 8.

MHP reiterates polls will take place as slated in June 2023


The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has reiterated its loyalty to the People's Alliance with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) as well as the executive-presidential system, its leader Devlet Bahçeli has said, underlining once again that the elections will take place as scheduled in June 2023.

CHP leader urges unity to overcome ‘hard days’

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has called for unity to overcome the "hard days" that Turkey has been facing recently.

"We are having hard days. We are going through difficult circumstances together. We will and we must overcome together; we must overcome," he said at the CHP's parliamentary group meeting on Feb. 1.
