President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has thanked a main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy in a phone call over a speech he delivered in parliament about a teacher who had been abducted and killed by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Tunceli.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) had research companies issue two public opinion surveys, one analyzing the April 16 results from the constitutional referendum and the other, the main opposition Republican People's Party's (CHP) "justice march."

Eight suspects were arrested on July 19 for planning an attack on the "justice march," a 450-km walk led by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. 

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) suspect named Oğuzhan Korkmaz was detained in the Marmara province of Kocaeli, after 14 suspects who had contacts with him were detained on July 5. 

Turkey marked the first anniversary of the July 15, 2016, coup attempt last week with the participation of masses across the country under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The leader of the main opposition party has reiterated his challenge to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for a televised debate over the July 15 coup attempt, after he was harshly accused of supporting coup plotters for calling the putsch a "controlled coup."

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has blasted Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu over his "controlled coup" comments about the July 2016 coup attempt, accusing the main opposition leader of encouraging the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), widely believed to have been behind the thwarted coup.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) is prepared to carry out more street protests following the 25-day justice march, said its chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on July 17. Kılıçdaroğlu also rejected President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calling his walk from Ankara to Istanbul a "terrorist march."

It is the first anniversary of the terrible July 15, 2016, coup attempt, which deserves to be celebrated as the victory of civil politics over such a dark plot and to be considered as a national day. Indeed, we have to be proud that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and all opposition circles duly defended democracy against an attempted coup last year.
