Romanian tennis players Simona Halep and Patricia Tig are among the four finalists for the 2019 WTA Shot of the Year, along with Polish Iga Swiatek and Ukrainian Elian Svitolina. Halep, got picked with two nominations, having won the monthly polls in February and May, came into the final with the first, while Patricia Tig won the July poll.

Romanian tennis player Patricia Maria Tig won the July 2019 shot of the month, in a poll on the WTA website. Tig, who returned in the limelight after winning the title at Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe and playing the final in Bucharest, gathered the most votes for a cross shot in the semifinal at the BRD Bucharest Open against German Laura Siegemund, at score 6-2, 2-1.

Romanian duo Simona Halep and Raluca Olaru qualified for the doubles semis of the grass-court tournament in Eastbourne (WTA) - 2019 Eastbourne - Great Britain, with prizes worth 998,712 US dollars, after defeating the pair made up of Alicja Rosolska (Poland)/Zhaoxuan Yang (China), with a score of 2-6, 6-0, 10-5. The Romanian nationals managed to win the event in 61 minutes.

BELGRADE - Belgium secured its place in next year's Fed Cup World Group II after beating Serbia in their play-off tie 3-1 in Belgrade on Sunday.

Serbia are now relegated to Europe/Africa Zone Group I.

Belgian Kirsten Flipkens brought Belgium back to World Group II following a hard fought 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory over Ivana Jorovic.

Bulgaria's No.1 female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova defeated British number one Heather Watson 6:4, 6:0 in the first round of Australian Open on Tuesday.

Pironkova took 83 minutes to edge her way into the second round of the tournament, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world's No 3, showed us the best shot in 2014, according to the WTA website, while playing against Kirsten Flipkens (Belgium), during the tournament in Cincinnati, the victory being claimed in the end by the Romanian player, 6-4, 6-2.

ROME - Serbian female tennis player Ana Ivanovic qualified for the Rome WTA second round as she defeated Italy's Karin Knapp, 6-1, 6-1.

In the fight for the third round, Ivanovic will cross rackets with France's Alize Cornet who defeated Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in the Monday match, 6-3, 6-2.
