Croatia Faces Tight Race in General Election

Croatia is entering one of the shortest election campaigns in its history after President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic on Monday set polling day for November 8.

Now the date of the vote has been confirmed, the parties and independent candidates have 14 days to submit their applications to the State Electoral Commission, which will accept and publish all valid lists within 48 hours.

Croatia President to Meet Orban to Defuse Crisis

 

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic will meet Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban next week to discuss the ongoing refugee crisis that has troubled the relations between two countries.

Grabar Kitarovic will pay an official visit to Budapest to ease tensions and improve traditionally good bilateral relations with Hungary.

Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic has said he "no longer wants to talk to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic."

Croatian Leaders Row Over Pusic's UN Candidacy

Croatia's centre-left government on Thursday offered official support to Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic in her bid to become the new UN Secretary General.

Her candidacy was unofficially raised in February and her chances appeared high, as it is thought that the next UN Secretary will come from Eastern or Southeastern Europe.
