New bill aims to protect borrowers

A new draft law by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance includes eight measures to protect vulnerable borrowers, increase transparency in how borrowers are informed by servicers, and enhance competition within the banking system.

The bill was unveiled for public consultation from Wednesday up to November 22.

Citizens’ complaints submission digital platform goes live

The new digital platform that allows citizens to file complaints regarding corruption and tax evasion went live on Monday via myaade.gov.gr.

Citizens can file complaints by name or anonymously by selecting one of the three categories, which are corruption, tax violations, or customs violations.

Seven out of ten self-employed people declare incomes lower than 780 euros per month

The regulations included in the tax bill that will be presented next Tuesday to the cabinet by Greek Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis will be aimed at the portion of freelancers who systematically show extremely low incomes, passing the burden on to other consistent taxpayers.

Hatzidakis announced that these measures aim to tackle tax evasion, among other things.

Strike against tax evasion

The planning of National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis includes a new framework for the taxation of the self-employed. The new finance minister has challenged himself to make his own mark in the fight against tax evasion, as he did in his previous posts tackling pensions, Public Power Corporation and Olympic Airways.
