Early music festival kicks off in Radovljica
Radovljica – The quaint town of Radovljica in the north-west of the country will host the 40th iteration of its early music festival from 5 to 23 August. This year, the festival will focus on music from the 16th to the 20th century.

NIJZ director resigns, acting director appointed
Ljubljana – Milan Krek, the director of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) handed in his resignation on Thursday citing “unbearable political pressure” by the new government. The council of the NIJZ appointed Branko Gabrovec acting director.

NIJZ head’s powers curtailed under government decision
Ljubljana – Against the backdrop of speculations that the head of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), Milan Krek, will soon be dismissed or will step down, the government changed the rules governing the institution so that Krek will no longer perform the duties of NIJZ medical director.
Journalist organisations decry govt PR strategy as censorship
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Journalists’ Association (DNS) and the Trade Union of Slovenian Journalists (SNS) have come out strongly against what they see as censorship following media reports that some government officials and advisers failed to get clearance from the Government Communication Office (UKOM) to appear on news shows. UKOM rejected the claims.
