Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin took part in the 124th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe held on May 5-6 in Vienna.

During the session, the 65th anniversary of the organization was marked.

No Bulgarian citizens have been injured in Friday’s clashes in Ukraine’s Odessa, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin informed.

“We insist on a full investigation, and we demand no mercy for yesterday’s killers,” Minister Vigenin told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

Bulgaria's official stance on the South Stream gas pipeline project has to oppose its suspension, according to former two-term Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin has pledged that Bulgaria will do everything within its power to implement the South Stream project.

The importance European Parliament's resolution demanding that the South Steam project be stopped "should not be exaggerated" Bulgaria's Foreign Minister said on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin believes that the scenario of a new gas crisis affecting Bulgaria is possible despite the lack of an immediate threat of a gas supply cut.

He explained that the problem would be triggered by the increase in gas prices and the new payment schemes which Russia planned to impose on Ukraine.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin has called on the EU to guarantee gas supplies from Russia to Ukraine and gas transit to the remaining part of Europe.

NATO secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrives on a two-day visit in Sofia on Thursday afternoon. 

On Friday he will receive the Stara Planina Order by Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and will have a private meeting with him, said the President's press office. 

Bulgaria urgently needs to modernize its air force, in the light of the situation in Ukraine, said Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin. 

According to him, the country needs to reorganize its military air force and buy new type of fighter jets, in order to terminate its dependence on Russia for their technical maintenance. 

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is to take part in the EU-Africa summit, which will be held April 2 and 3.

Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin will also participate in the event, Bulgaria's CROSS news agency has reported.
