Police force struggling with staff shortages, long commutes
Ljubljana – Police departments in Slovenia continue to struggle with staffing shortages dating back to austerity measures. The average age of a police officer rises by 4.5 months each year, while unions are warning that many, especially from the east of the country as the main source of the police’s workforce, are having to do extremely long commutes.
Police commissioner issues dismissal warnings to trade unionists
Ljubljana – Police Commissioner Anton Olaj has allegedly signed dismissal warnings for the heads of the two police trade unions, Kristjan Mlekuš from the SPS trade union and Rok Cvetko from the PSS, the newspaper Dnevnik reported on Saturday.
Small shareholder association boss found guilty of insider trading in retrial
Ljubljana – The Ljubljana Local Court has sentenced Kristjan Verbič, the president of the Pan-Slovenian Association of Small Shareholders (VZMD), to a suspended prison sentence for insider trading in 2007, the newspaper Delo reported. Verbič already got an eight-month suspended sentence in 2017.
Police trade union takes action to warn about abuse
Ljubljana – The SPS police trade union has submitted to parliament an initiative to collect signatures from citizens in support of amendments to the employment relationships act that would make conditions for reprimanding employees before dismissal stricter and more specific. The SPS warns the disciplinary measure has been abused in the police force.
Enticing investors to enter capital market in focus of conference
Bled – The VZMD Slovenian association of small shareholders and Better Finance will organise an investment conference on Monday to discuss ways of encouraging small shareholders to invest more in the capital market. Around 100 representatives of decision-makers, regulators and shareholders are expected to attend.
Lampič, Roglič and handball team declared best in sports in 2020
Ljubljana – Cross-country skier Anamarija Lampič, cyclist Primož Roglič and the men’s handball team are this year’s crème de la crème of Slovenian sports as selected by the Association of Sports Journalists. Both the athletes and the team received the top sports awards at the 2020 Athlete of the Year ceremony on Wednesday.
