Turkey's machinery exports reached $13 billion in the first seven months of this year, up nearly one-third from last year, according to figures released by a sector association on Aug. 17.

The sector's exports rose 32% year-on-year this January-July, and climbed 16% versus the same period in 2019, the Machinery Exporters' Association said in a press release.

The sector's exports increased by 37 percent year-on-year in the January-May period, and 12 percent versus the same period in 2019, the Machinery Exporters' Association said in a press release.

Following a statement regarding the 1996 murder of Kutlu Adalı, a prominent Turkish Cypriot journalist, Atilla Peker has been released with a judicial control measure on the charge of "helping to premeditated murder" by an Istanbul court to which he was referred to.

The Istanbul Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the murder of a Turkish Cypriot journalist in 1996 following the claims of Sedat Peker, a fugitive mafia boss who has recently been making online exposés about his network's criminal acts and relations with the politics.

Turkey's machinery exports reached $17.1 billion in 2020, marking a decrease of just 4% despite the novel coronavirus pandemic, an exporters group said on Jan. 20. 

The machinery sector increased its performance by 17.5% in December and 9% in the last quarter, said the statement by the Machinery Exporters' Association (MAIB).
