Turkish machinery exports hit $13 bln in first 7 months

Turkey's machinery exports reached $13 billion in the first seven months of this year, up nearly one-third from last year, according to figures released by a sector association on Aug. 17.

The sector's exports rose 32% year-on-year this January-July, and climbed 16% versus the same period in 2019, the Machinery Exporters' Association said in a press release.

Turkey's machinery exports reached $9.2 billion in the first five months of this year, according to figures released by a sector association on June 13.

The sector's exports increased by 37 percent year-on-year in the January-May period, and 12 percent versus the same period in 2019, the Machinery Exporters' Association said in a press release.

Turkey's machinery exports rose 5.2 percent in January-February as international buyers turned to the country due to coronavirus, according to an exporters group on March 10.

The country's machinery exports hit $2.9 billion in the first two months of this year, the Machinery Exporters' Association (MAIB) said in a statement.

Trade gap in machinery sector falls by half

With machinery exports hitting $17.9 billion in 2019, Turkey's foreign trade deficit in the sector was cut in half from $10 billion to $5 billion, the Machinery Exporters' Association (MAIB) said on Jan. 13.

In 2019, the export/import coverage ratio was 76.3 percent in the Turkish machinery sector, one of the country's three largest export sectors, the group announced.
