The National Liberal party (PNL) MEPs will intensify the lobbying for resuming the procedure of appointing the EU Chief Prosecutor, given that the odds of the Romanian candidate to this position - Laura Codruta Kovesi - have improved, the Liberals' leader, Ludovic Orban, said on Monday.

"I haven't had any contact with anyone (politicians) and I don't intend to leave the legal profession," the 46-year-old said.

"The only candidacy I am interested in is that of European chief public prosecutor."

The High Magistrates Council in Romania on Thursday accepted a request submitted by Attorney General Augustin Lazar, 63, to retire following a row over his alleged collaboration with the former communist regime.
