Bulgaria’s Government Allocates BGN 100,000 for Excavations at Ancient City Heraclea Sintica
Bulgaria's government on August 7 allocated BGN 100,000 to the Ministry of Culture for the excavations of the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica near Rupite. The state has already provided BGN 1.5 million for excavation and construction of roads to the site. The ancient city is the most visited tourist site in Southwestern Bulgaria, reports BNT.

A headless statue dating from 1-2th century AD was found in the ruins of Heraclea Sintica, in southern Bulgaria, near Rupite.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Regional Minister Nikolay Nankov will inspect the construction of the Struma motorway and visit the archaeological excavations near the Blagoevgrad village of Pokrovnik, the BNR announced.
