Argentina won’t join BRICS as scheduled, says member of Milei’s transition team
Argentina will not be joining the BRICS bloc of developing economies next year as scheduled, a senior official in President-elect Javier Milei's team has said.
"We will not join the BRICS," Diana Mondino, who Milei picked as foreign minister once he is sworn into office on Dec. 10, wrote on X.
BRICS invites Six countries to become its New Members
Leaders of the BRICS group have invited Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates to join - a move aimed at increasing the influence of the bloc, which has vowed to defend the "global south", Reuters reported.
Lula voices support for more countries joining BRICS
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has said that he supports more countries joining the BRICS group of large developing nations, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The group will hold a summit in Johannesburg from Aug. 22 to 24. The meeting will have in hand a list of others desiring to join ther group.
