Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) - Tashkent Open 2019, with total prizes worth 250,000 US dollars, after defeating Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure, with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Cirstea (aged 29, WTA's 96th), 8th seed, managed to win in two hours and 14 minutes.

Romanian-Russian tennis duo Monica Niculescu/Margarita Gasparyan qualified on Monday for the women's doubles quarterfinals of the Bronx Open (WTA) tournament in New York, with prizes worth 250,000 US dollars, after defeating the pair made up of Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh /Yu-Chieh Hsieh, with a score of 6-1, 7-5. The pair managed to win in only 64 minutes.

Romanian tennis player Patricia Maria Tig won the July 2019 shot of the month, in a poll on the WTA website. Tig, who returned in the limelight after winning the title at Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe and playing the final in Bucharest, gathered the most votes for a cross shot in the semifinal at the BRD Bucharest Open against German Laura Siegemund, at score 6-2, 2-1.
