Maria Giakoumaki

Maria Giakoumaki, the woman who flung herself onto her son's white coffin, is a tragic figure in the disappearance and consequent news of Vangelis Giakoumakis' suicide. She told Proto Thema of the difficult times she is going through and the pain of finding out about her son's suffering at the Dairy School of Ioannina. In Crete, her hometown, she feels that her son is near her.

Maria Giakoumaki, the mother of the bullied student who went missing on February 6, was the tragic figure at the funeral in Selli, Crete, on Tuesday, just 17km from Rethymno. People gathered to pay their last respects to Vangelis Giakoumakis, the boy who stoically and silently dealt with months of degradation by his peers at the Dairy School of Ioannina before committing suicide.
