Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov appointed Diyan Stamatov as Deputy Education Minister.

This was announced by the government's press service on Monday.

Having earned a degree in biology at Sofia University, Stamatov currently serves as a director and biology teacher at a school in Sofia.

It's a matter of courage to make reforms in the education sector, Bulgaria's newly appointed Education Minister Meglena Kuneva said on Wednesday shortly after parliament endorsed her nomination.

Bulgaria's parliament endorsed the nomination of Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva as the country's new education minister on Wednesday.

Kuneva was elected to the post in a 106-66 vote and 31 abstentions in the 240-seat Parliament.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov demanded the resignation of Tanev last week over the systematic problems in the education system and the proposed controversial changes to the school curriculum which have not been subject to broad public discussion.

Bulgarian Deputy Education Minister Vanya Kastreva will submit her resignation to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

Kastreva said in an interview for private Bulgaria ON AIR on Monday that her resignation was the most logical step amid the chaos ensuing from the circulation of untruths concerning Bulgarian education.

Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva has been nominated as new Bulgaria's Education Minister to replace Todor Tanev.

The nomination was announced on Friday evening by the Reformist Bloc, the junior partner in the minority coalition government led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

On Thursday, Borisov demanded the resignation of Tanev and his entire team.

The parties constituting the junior coalition partner - the Reformist Bloc (RB) will determine on their own the candidate for new education minister of Bulgaria.

This became clear after a meeting between representatives of RB and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on Friday.
