Former intelligence official sentenced to 23 years in prison

A court in Ankara has sentenced Enver Altaylı, a former official of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), to a total of 23 years in prison for "political and military espionage" and membership to a terrorist organization.

Altaylı was detained and arrested in 2017 as part of an investigation into the FETÖ, which was responsible for the failed coup attempt in 2016. 

Turkey's exports refresh its record with $20.8 bln in October

Refreshing its monthly figure record, Turkey's exports hit $20.8 billion in October, the trade minister said on Nov. 1. 

Turkish exports rose 20.2% year-on-year in October, Mehmet Muş told at a news conference in Ankara where he revealed the country's preliminary foreign trade data for the month.

President Erdoğan arrives in Angola, begins diplomacy tour in Africa

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived on Oct. 17 in Angola's capital Luanda, the first leg of his mini-tour of three African countries, also including Nigeria and Togo.

Erdoğan was welcomed by Angola's Foreign Minister Tete Antonio and Alp Ay, Turkey's ambassador to the Southern African nation, at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport.

Turkish gov’t looks beyond its proximity to ramp up exports

The Turkish government aims to add $80 billion to the volume of its exports with its "faraway countries strategy," Trade Minister Mehmet Muş said in an interview on Oct. 7. 
"Turkey carries out 65 percent of its exports within an area of 2,000 kilometers. We often don't go further away," Muş told private broadcaster NTV.

Turkish Nobel laureate attends Teknofest in Istanbul

Turkey's Nobel laureate in chemistry Aziz Sancar on Sept. 24 attended the top-notch technology event Teknofest, and said that it "made me really proud."

"I came here to promote science and technology in Turkey and the Turkish world. What I saw here really made me proud and encouraged me," he said in his address in Istanbul.
