Raging Fire Destroyed Prized Rio de Janeiro Museum
AFP - A massive fire on Sunday ripped through Rio de Janeiro's treasured National Museum, one of Brazil's oldest, in what the nation's president said was a "tragic" loss of knowledge and heritage.
The majestic edifice stood engulfed in flames as plumes of smoke shot into the night sky, while firefighters battled to control the blaze that erupted around 2230 GMT.

Brazilian Prisoners Took the Guards as Hostages
Prisoners rebelled after an attempted escape from a Brazilian prison and took guards as hostages, France's press quoted the authorities as saying.
The grazing crisis lasted for several hours. The rebellion broke out yesterday afternoon in a prison about 50km from the center of Rio de Janeiro. Seven guards were taken hostages.

Rio de Janeiro Protests Turn Violent (Video)
Tear gas and light grenades used the Brazilian state police force in Rio de Janeiro against protesters last night, TASS reported.
Artists, musicians and other people from the cultural communities organized a campaign to demand the resignation of Brazilian President Michel Temer. The protest was peaceful until masked people appeared in the area outside the local parliament building.

Brazil's Prosecutor General Rodrigo Zhano has filed a request with the Federal Supreme Court for charges against former presidents of the country, Luis Inasi Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, for the creation of a criminal organization. Chinese President Xi Jinping told an international summit on Sept. 5 that although the global economy had improved, risk factors had also increased.
Addressing the "Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries," Xi appeared to rebuke the United States's recent resistance to international agreements - including the Paris climate accord.
