Volcano erupts in southern Chile, 3,000 people evacuated
A volcano in southern Chile began erupting early March 3 forcing the evacuation of some 3,000 people in nearby villages, the government said.
The Villarrica volcano, one of Chile's most active, began erupting around 3:00 am (0600 GMT), prompting authorities to declare a red alert and cancel classes in schools, the National Emergency Office said.

A forest fire, which got out of control near Chile's city of Valparaiso killed at least 12 people and destroyed thousands of homes over the weekend.
More than 10 000 people were evacuated, including more than 200 female inmates at a prison.

Close to 1 million residents have been evacuated after Tuesday night's 8.2 magnitude earthquake in northern Chile.
"More than 900,000 people and 11 hospitals were evacuated along the Chilean coastline", local officials said, quoted by ABC News. The death toll is reported at 6.
