The chairman of the parliamentary defence and security committee, Mevludin Nuhodzic, said on Sunday that he wants senior police and prosecution officials to appear in parliament for questioning after the assassination on Friday of former lawmaker Sasa Markovic.

NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday that Montenegro has made "real progress towards membership".

Speaking after talks in Brussels with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, Stoltenberg said Podgorica had "introduced substantial reforms" to improve the the rule of law in the country as well as the defence and intelligence sectors.

NATO's door is open, Montenegrin PM told

BRUSSELS -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the door of the Alliance remains open for Montenegro.

He made the comment after meeting with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic on Wednesday.

The Montenegrin government has offered an alternative site for the construction of the upmarket tourism complex after the Abu Dhabi-based Royal Group company pulled out of a project to build at another location, local media reported on Wednesday. 

The head of the European Council, Donald Tusk, said on Tuesday after meeting Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic in Brussels, that strengthening the rule of law and fighting against organised crime and corruption were the key issues that Montenegro has to tackle on its path towards the EU.

"Russia won't mind Montenegro joining NATO"

PODGORICA -- Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic expects his country to be invited to join NATO by the end of the year. He also believes Russia will not "oppose" this.

The broadcaster on Thursday said it was taking Vijesti to court because the latter's director, Zeljko Ivanovic, had made false, derogatory statements, which had damaged Prva TV's reputation and business.

The Montenegrin Supreme State Prosecutor, Ivica Stankovic, on Wednesday ordered an investigation into allegations of abuse of state resources and office by the Social Democratic Party, SDP, ahead of the 2012 general elections.

The UAE-based company Royal Group has pulled out of a project to build a luxury resort in the Dubovica bay in the coastal towns of Budva and Bar after failing to reach a deal on a long-term lease of a beach.
