Kosovo's Supreme Court has ruled that two court verdicts wrongly found Serb fighter Milorad Zajic not guilty of committing war crimes against civilians and violating the Geneva Conventions, but his acquittal stands because the Supreme Court cannot order a retrial.

The appeals court in Pristina has upheld the verdict that found Milorad Zajic not guilty of committing war crimes against the civilian population and violations of the Geneva Conventions.

At the Basic Court in Peja/Pec in Kosovo, during his first trial session, former Serbian policeman Milorad Zajic pleaded "not guilty" on Wednesday to all war crimes charges made against him.

Zajic is indicted for allegedly taking part in the killing of two people - one with disabilities - and for forcing ethnic Albanians out of a village in 1998 during the war in Kosovo.
