U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said, "We will stop racing to topple foreign regimes…" He continued, "Instead, our focus must be on defeating terrorism and destroying [the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant], and we will." 

While Trump was explaining the new foreign policy concept, he also made a historic confession.  

One of Libya's rival governments resigned on April 5, a step that helps efforts by a new, U.N.-brokered unity government to assert itself in the capitol, Tripoli, despite opposition from some local militias.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned that the future of Libya, and the stability of the whole Sahel region, is at stake as it faces the "terrifying threat" of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

But he warned international powers not to "stoke the fires of conflict" in the country.

Members of Libya's rival parliaments have signed Dec. 17 a U.N.-sponsored deal on forming a unity government, aiming to bring peace to the war-ravaged country.

Libya's Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) affiliate took control of a civilian air base in the central city of Sirte, a militia spokesman and an ISIL statement said, in the latest gains by the extremist group exploiting Libya's lingering chaos.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadist group released on April 19 a video purportedly showing the executions of some 30 Ethiopian Christians captured in Libya.

The 29-minute video purports to show militants holding two groups of captives, described in a text on the screen as "followers of the cross from the enemy Ethiopian Church."

2 dead as Greek tanker is bombed by "unidentified warplane"

ATHENS -- Greek authorities announced on Monday that an unidentified warplane bombed a Greek tanker in Libya and that two crew members were killed and two others injured.

With the violence in Libya escalating to its worst level since the 2011 ouster of dictator Moammar Gadhafi, governments from around the world are scrambling to evacuate their citizens from the country, many seeking help from nearby Greece.
